Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine and energy healing in the world. Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most thoroughly researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine available anywhere.According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body (meridians). Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including placing very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve your Qi flow. The many benefits of acupuncture include:
Chinese herbal medicine is a 2,000-year-old tradition using naturally occurring substances — including herbs — to enhance one's health and vitality. As opposed to Western medicine, the foundation of this approach is to support the body's natural self-healing mechanisms and abilities. Since each patient has different needs, we carefully select and combine a variety of herbs that will synergistically blend together to achieve optimal results for your unique situation. We prescribe high-quality, professional-grade herbal medicines that are available only to qualified licensed professionals.
Cupping has been a part of Chinese Medicine for over 2,500 years. It relieves aches and pains, improves circulation, and also helps with respiratory and digestive issues. We simply place a specialized "cup" onto specific points on your body and then use suction to draw your skin up into the cups. It doesn't hurt — it simply draws fresh blood to that area of your body, which facilitates the cleansing and strengthening of your Qi (energy). The end result is a greater overall sense of elimination, detoxification, tonification and well-being.
One of the most common questions that patients ask about Chinese Medicine is: "Why does my practitioner check my pulse?" Pulse diagnosis is actually one of the most complex and important diagnostic techniques we use in Chinese Medicine. Through feeling and evaluating your pulse, we obtain an accurate diagnosis of your overall constitution, Qi (energy) flow, and internal organ health, among other things. We then synthesize all of this information into a highly effective and individualized treatment plan for your specific need.
Electroacupuncture is a highly effective holistic treatment for pain, nausea, and chronic ailments. In practice, it is actually very similar to traditional acupuncture. Using the exact same system of Chinese Medicine, we insert very thin and sterile needles into specific points along the meridians of your body. We then attach the needles to a device that delivers gentle electrical pulses between two points. This helps restore the healthy flow of Qi (energy) through your body, removing any blockages and clearing out stagnant areas, thus creating a stronger and clearer experience of health and well-being.
"Before coming to see Dr. Helena Zhang, my husband and I had been trying to conceive for 2 1/2 years. I had three miscarriages and saw two fertility doctors, one of whom had me take clomid, estrogen, progesterone, ovulation shots, etc., for three months without any positive results. At that point, I took a break from trying to conceive and decided that I needed to heal my mind. Under Dr. Zhang’s guidance, her compassionate, knowledgeable, and insightful interns quickly put me at ease and helped my mind and body to naturally prepare for a baby. Within one month I was pregnant. Dr. Zhang’s extensive understanding of the body and nutrition successfully navigated me through the first trimester. She gave definitive advice, carefully selected Chinese herbs to strengthen my pulse, recommended small dietary changes to increase my estrogen levels, and had quirky tricks to warm my womb. I was absolutely impressed with her expertise and insight at every turn and have no doubt that she was key in preparing me for this important stage. I had never had acupuncture before this, and I am now a firm believer. I highly recommend Dr. Zhang; she is a kind person with amazing expertise."
"After being diagnosed with low ovarian reserve at 32 years old, my doctor told me I had a 5% chance of becoming pregnant and that IVF was the best option. After going through IVF with two separate embryo implantations, the first one was unsuccessful, the second resulted in a miscarrige, I took a break and decided to focus on my health and mental health.
It was at this time that I found Dr. Zhang, and I am so fortunate that I did. Dr. Zhang understood the stress, anxiety I was holding onto and through her treatments in acupuncture and cupping, I felt a significant shift mentally and emotionally. After seeing Dr. Zhang for four sessions, I became pregnant - I couldn't believe it. After 2.5 years of trying to conceive, this really felt like a miracle.
I've continued to see Dr. Zhang throughout my pregnancy (I'm now nearly 8 months pregnant), and she has been a critical part of my pregnancy journey, helping to alleviate stress, anxiety and provide recommendations to keep me healthy and help address some discomfort or pain I've experienced during my pregnancy. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Zhang, how she cares for her patients and how in touch and knowledgeable she is when it comes to Chinese medicine. For anyone struggling with infertility, I highlighly recommend seeing Dr. Zhang."
"I have had the most wonderful experience with Dr. Helena Zhang. After struggling to fall pregnant and suffering from painful periods, I was exhausted and confused by what my western doctors were telling me. I was to need some healing and some understanding. On our first meeting, I told her I had a cyst, and they wanted to remove it, and it was probably messing with my ovulation, and she basically said, who cares? You ovulate from both sides, and we’ll work on it. She saw me as a whole person and not just my symptoms.
One of the most amazing gifts for Helena is her energy. She can look at you and know where you are. She has been very compassionate and knowledgeable while communicating with me in a way that I understood. She worked with me to help us get pregnant and where I was in the present moment. I remember when she did energy work on my back and then with some acupuncture and told me that I might feel like crying or more sensitive after treatment. Over the next week, things shifted for me, and instead of holding things down, I let my emotions come full circle, which was a turning moment for me and my faith and trust in her care.
After seeing her for about 6 months, I fell pregnant. We are so happy and excited and glad that we had the journey that we did. I feel that I really learned a lot about medicine and myself. I have also had an amazing first trimester, and I feel I owe that to all the acupuncture and herbs I had."
"For almost 10 years I experienced a big shift in my health and energy- feeling low energy, mildly depressed, unusually pessimistic and reclusive, frequently getting sick, and lacking the stamina to enjoy regular exercise. I saw many eastern and western doctors and tried many things including diet, lifestyle changes and medications. My overall condition improved marginally over a long period of time and I had reluctantly come to accept it as the “new normal.”
Then I was introduced to Dr. Helena Zhang- initially studying her beautiful Jade Woman QiGong form and then becoming her patient.
Dr. Zhang is a health practitioner and healer unlike any other I have ever come across. She is an outstanding acupuncturist and herbalist, deeply skilled in assessing the nuances and central issues causing various health imbalances. The breadth of her knowledge and healing techniques comes from years of experience and ongoing mastery to the healing arts. She skillfully customizes each treatment for maximum benefit, and I feel noticeable results during and after the treatment, as well as sustained benefits over time. She has brought a vitality back into my body/spirit and that in turn is creating health and wellness from within.
A few months ago I moved away from Southern California, but I continue to fly into the L.A. area and see Dr. Zhang. She is a uniquely skilled health practitioner, and I will continue to seek her care no matter where I live."
"My husband and I had tried to conceive for a few months but without success. I had a fear that I couldn’t have children due to a surgery of multiple-large-cysts-removal that occurred a few years ago.
As a birthday gift, my mother offered me a consultation with Dr. Helena Zhang during her visit to Europe. In the consultation, after studying my medical history and lifestyle, questioning detailed information regarding my symptoms, and observing my tongue and pulse, Dr. Zhang offered me a session of treatment, some instructions to follow, and a few bottles of Chinese Herbal Formula to take. And I got pregnant one month later! At my 32 weeks of pregnancy, I also went to see Dr. Zhang relieve some abdominal pains due to pregnancy (mainly acidity). The treatment was beneficial; she advises very usefully and practically.
The 9 months of pregnancy have gone perfectly! Now, I have a beautiful baby boy! I am going to see Dr. Zhang soon again to search for a joyful postpartum recovery! Therefore I strongly recommend Dr. Zhang. She is very soothing, positive, and provides wonderful advice."
Acupuncture works by inserting fine & disposable needles into specific acupoints in the body that are located along the meridians, or energy channels, to activate & move vital energy (Qi) throughout the body. Acupuncture balances the energy flow and stimulates the body’s innate healing mechanisms. Modern science has also shown that acupuncture promotes the release of endorphins and positive neurotransmitters in the body.
In short, Qi is “life force energy.” According to classical Chinese philosophy, everything contains Qi, and everything is in a constant exchange of Qi. The majority of people are unable to touch or see Qi, but most can still feel its sensation and can see the result of its work. For example, after an acupuncture treatment, Qi flow within the body is restored, and many patients feel more uplifted and at peace.
Everyone is different, and it depends on the root cause. About 85% of patients experience positive changes after just one treatment. On infrequent occasions, some patients may feel a little worse before they feel better as their body adjusts and detoxifies. In these cases, other methods like herbal medicine, qi gong, tai chi or meditation will be considered in the treatment plan. In the rare case that a patient does not notice remarkable improvements by the seventh treatment, the patient will most likely not respond to any treatments at all. Then the treatment plan needs to be updated, and other methods need to be considered.
Once again, it depends on the complexity of the problem. Within the first few treatment sessions, we recommend each patient a customized, four-phase treatment plan to follow, which typically begins with one or two sessions a week for the first one to four weeks and gradually decreases from there.
Combined with other methods like herbal medicine, qi gong, tai chi, and meditation, our customized TCM optimizes your body so that it will be able to heal itself. Although the body moves in a proper direction almost presently after the first session, it tends to slip back or revert to its old patterns within a few days. Our treatment plans are designed to prevent this from happening so that you will need less frequent treatments and progressto the next phase of the plan.
The history of TCM dates back at least 5,000 years ago. This complex, elegant, and nature-respecting medical knowledge was at first passed down orally from generation to generation. When TCM was finally put into written form approximately 2,000 years ago, it became known as the Huang Di Nei Jing 黃帝內經 or the Yellow Emperor’s Classic Book of Internal Medicine. It is the world’s oldest known medical textbook. It records TCM theories, such as the meaning of the various pulses, the practice of preserving health according to seasonal changes, and the critical importance of blood for women's health. More importantly, it explains the vital tie between humans and the universe. Its value endures until this day as its theories continue to help successfully treat patients worldwide.
The most common Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) methods include acupuncture, acupressure, and Chinese herbal formulas. With techniques such as electric acupuncture, cupping, and massage therapy, TCM can help with a variety of health issues, especially with chronic ones. If you have a serious problem that has not responded to conventional medicine, you will likely benefit from TCM.
Besides all TCM standard methods, Dr. Zhang also uses her unique creations like 5 Seasons Jade Woman, Golden Pineal Gland Activation, Jade Goddess Acupuncture-Hypnosis Reproduction, as well as other forms of qi gong, tai chi, and meditation.
Combining acupuncture with Jade Goddess Self-Hypnosis, the Jade Goddess Acupuncture-Hypnosis Reproduction course focuses on cleansing and circulating the Chong Meridian, Conception Vessel & Governor Vessel – qi pathways in TCM that support reproductive functions. The method supports women's entire reproduction journey from conception to pregnancy & postpartum.
It contains 8 unique protocols: 2 for conception, 4 for pregnancy, and 2 for postpartum.
